anothergooner,
Standard definition is 480 lines of resolution, so the television is upconverting 480 lines, processing it and displaying it on 1080 lines of resolution on a 1080 panel. So what I think you're referrring to is the picture quality where lines and phone numbers during commercials aren't very defined, and that's inherent with a upconversion from 480 signals.

I have a new LN46B750 with Comcast cable. Picture is awesome when viewing HD channels and terrible when viewing standard definition. Is there anything I can do (absent changing settings each time I switch from HD to SD)? Or is that just the way it is?
Thanks in advance.
