General discussion

SD630 vs. SD700 Canon

May 12, 2006 3:23PM PDT

Hi there, I am confused about choosing a new camera, where SD630 has 3" LCD, and SD700 has digital image stabilization, which one you pros prefer to? I just need to take a picture for vacation or some important events. My issues here, does the Image stabilization in SD700 really really take effects? because if it is not, I would choose the SD630, which has bigger LCD. Thank you pros.

Canon SD630/SD700

Image Stabilization is important when you have a 10X optical zoom. It is less important with a 4X optical zoom.

For a small camera it is helpful when shooting in low light with shutter speeds of 1/30th of a second. But that combination does not occur often.

If you want the large LCD the SD630 offers that.
However since the LCD is so large, there is no room for an optical viewfinder. This could be a problem in bright sunlight.

The SD600 is the same as the SD630, but it has a 2.5 inch LCD and a viewfinder.

Therefore, I would expect a SD730is with a 3" LCD in about 4 months. Just like they did with the SD500 and SD550.
