Question

sd micro sd

Jun 13, 2016 4:55PM PDT

I used a action cam to record a recent trip, at the time of recording the camera always said it recorded, I cannot find the files I have not formatted the disk or anything, when I remove the sd card the camera wont record so that recorded data has to be somewhere right? One thing is that the camera said that the max micro sd was 32g I had a 64g card in it though, am I just screwed?

Try RECUVA and see if it can drag anything off the media.

And yes, don't do that again.

So I might be able to find something with that program, I just find it odd that a camera would record but yet not show the files.

Sorry but what is the question?

I can't guess what you are asking in this reply. Did you try it?

Is there a program to try and find those files, I had no idea the size of an SD card would change the capabilities to record please explain

The name of the program I would try is Recuva.

Just checked Google and typing recuva there finds it.

Maybe you are asking me what will happen but given damage is never the same, we try this first. In case you need a resilient video player, go get VLC Player from ninite.com to try playing files you drag off the media.

Ok that's the deal, no matter what I try, I haven't tried recova, I cannot even see the files or find them, I don't know it here's a format to read the files on a 64 g micro sd compared to a 32 g I'm lost for words and so saddened, as I said it was a family vacation and we have no vids of any of the stuff we did, do to the files not being found or recognized idk, but the camera dud say record but I could never find a playback.

So you didn't try so next stop is to pay someone.

I'd use drivesavers.com

Just to clarify. Did you try Recuva?

If not, why not? Not to offend you but once in a while you run into folk that won't try. For them you send to recovery places like drivesavers.com

Answer
USB port

Not knowing exactly what your camera offers, but if it has an ext. USB port, you can attach it to the PC. It will treat the camera as an storage media and thus allow access to what is stored there. Of course, you need the proper USB cable for that purpose in order to attach. Do this before any attempt to restore or somehow correct corruption of media if so present. If in fact corruption is found, then use the retrieval s/w. Understand, attempts at doing such could damage even further what is stored, excluding any other issue.

As for the 64gb vs 32gb status, many cameras stop at 32gb limit, but newer cameras have increased that. Also, there is the possibly of the format requirements. Your camera manual/guide should offer what it needs to be used. if not done prior to usage, it defaults as best as possible or become unusable/unreliable.
