SD Card Question

Nov 9, 2004 11:26PM PST

Being a new user of an Ipaq I have what may seem a silly question but unless I ask I will not learn now will I? Here is the question, I have a Kingston 128MB Secure Digital Card for my handheld but if I want to read or write to the card from my Dell laptop what do I need to get? Thanks for the help in advance.

You need a SD memory card reader, often either a 7-in-1 or 8-in-1 or 9-in-1 or 10-in-1 (you get the idea) although there are also dedicated SD readers. They mostly connect to your PC's USB (1.1 or 2.0) and allow reading & writing despite name. BTW, SD devices usually but not always support
MMC as well.

Expect to pay from zero to $12. check out ecost.com for my personnal favorites.

I have an SD card reader for my digital camera memory card and have no problems at all. I have no need for all of the extra card adapters so a 4-in one, 5-in one, etc is not necessary, in my opinion. Besides, XD and Compact flash cards are not used much anymore, and certainly not for PDAs, so unless you have a digital camera that uses those formats (or plan to get one) it is not really necessary to get more than just the SD reader. You can get them at any electronics store, but your best bet is one for USB 2.0 since it will transfer info faster (provided that your computer has an USB 2.0 port).
