Scrolling white lines on TV???

Nov 22, 2008 11:40AM PST

I just bought a 750 series 46 inch tv and am seeing faint horizontal lines scroll slowly up the screen. It does not happen when I watch a dvd, just tv. Does this seem like an issue with the tv, or the cable? Any suggestions on how this can be resolved?
Thanks

Information please....

jsutton3030,

I'll need a little more information if you could.

How is the television hooked up to the source that is causing the issue? Do you have a cable box, or is it hooked up directly into the wall? What wires are you using?

Thanks!

Hello,
The TV is connected to both a Blue Ray DVD via HDMI cable (no problems seem to exist with this), and the tv is also connected to a cable box provided by RCN. The connection to the cable box is 5 component av wires. What I have found so far is that when I take the cable wire out of the wall connection, the lines go away from the tv. When I screw it back in, the scrolling lines appear again.
Thanks for the help.

try using a surge protector...

But I would recomend a UPS Battery system... It should Isolate your device and allow surge protection for both the cable line and power.

What your seeing *MIGHT* be a grounding issue with the wire...
You can also have your cable co come out and look @ the wire and make sure its grounded properly outside

Thank you for the resonse,
I am having the cable company come out to take a look. Surge protector makes a lot of sense though in any event.
Thanks

White lines

I did get it fixed. I had the cable company come out and they were not really sure what the problem was. They changed out the cable box to give me an HDMI cable hookup from the box to the tv and that seemed to do the trick. The guy wasn't exactly sure why it worked, but it has been fine for a few weeks now.
Thanks

thanks for this post. i just got the samsung ln46a750 a few weeks ago and have noticed these white, dashed lines at the top of my tv. i am able to cure it by doing a 'picture reset' in the menu. very, very annoying because you have to reset all of your picture settings. i will try a hdmi connections instead. i do like the theory of interference. maybe the interference is remove with the use of a hdmi????? thanks again.

Do what?

The issue was resolved with a cable box swap out.

I'm not sure I understand the question. Could you be a little more specific?

I'm having the same problem with the horizontal scrolling lines. When I hook cable from wall directly to TV there is no problem. When I run from wall to cable box to TV I get the horizontal rolling lines and a humming in the sound. I assume this is grounding issue with the cable box?

Unplug?

Repap Spilc,

Try unplugging the cable box and let it do a full reset (which might also be available if you call up and have them reset the box). Does it change anything, or is the picture still affected?

scrolling white lines.

I tried a number of different things but found something that worked. I had all of the various devices plugged into a single power strip. I plugged the cable box directly into the wall instead of the power strip and all the problems stopped. Weird but I haven't had the problem since I did that.
