Question

Scroll Bar and Volume Malfunction

Oct 9, 2018 9:35AM PDT

* Taskbar volume slider moves to 0 while open. If I use the keyboard volume buttons the volume will go up or down correctly and stay put.

* VLC media player volume moves to 200% while program is open. If mouse hovers over the timing scroll bar the bar moves to the right.

* I could not use my mouse to choose the "Post Type" of this discussion. The drop down menu closes immediately. I was able to choose the "Question" option by using my up and down arrows on the keyboard.

*Hovering over the scroll bar on this webpage does not cause it to move up or down. I can scroll up or down freely using the mouse wheel. However, trying to click on the bar and drag is not possible.

It seems like there is a phantom button being pressed. Problem just started this morning.

I have tried:
- When I first noticed the problem, I restarted my computer.
- Switched out the mouse.
- Tested the keyboard at Keyboardtester.com for phantom buttons. Nothing, everything is working correctly.
- Unplugged mouse and keyboard, VLC media player volume still rising to 200%.
- Updated mouse and keyboard drivers...all up to date.
- Turned off Mouse Pointer Precision.
- Updated Windows 10...up to date.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If this was mine.

I'd head to Dell.com and enter my service tag and install drivers for my PC for audio and look for Dell's Quickset app. If you don't know what the Quickset app is, use google.

Answer
Just In Case It's Still the Wireless Mouse/Keyboard....

Try removing the wireless mouse/keyboard dongle and plug in a wired PS2 keyboard and mouse. It may require a couple of restarts for the computer to recognize the PS2 hardware. If that fixes the issue, you know the culprit is the wireless dongle setup.

Hope this helps.
