Question

Script Host Error - Can not find script file

Apr 20, 2017 2:59PM PDT

Hi,

I downloaded and tried to open a .js file, but my antivirus picked it up and deleted it. I now keep getting the following message from Windows Script Host:

Can not find script file
C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Temp\SelfExtractingArchive.js

I've tried a number of things. I've tried going into the Temp folder and checking to see if the file is still there, but it's definitely gone.

I've tried adding a line to the Registry to disable the Script Host, but now I just keep getting a message saying my Script Host is disabled and to contact my administrator.

I don't know what else to do to prevent my computer from trying to seek out a file that doesn't exist. One site advised that I create an empty file for it to find, but not sure how this really solves the problem in the long-term.

I'm using Windows 10. Can anyone advise?

Clean up
Apr 21, 2017 10:08AM PDT

I did the PC clean-up, but it still hasn't worked. I tried running HIJACKTHIS but it says it won't work on my system and there doesn't seem to be a version available for Windows 10.

All good here. I did get the usual error about no write access but that's normal.

There is no version for Windows 10. It runs on XP to W10 here.
