Screensaver issue...

by whizkid454 / March 19, 2007 3:53 AM PDT

My friend has a pretty new Dell Dimension E520: XP MCE 2005, C2D E6300, 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD, 128MB ATI graphics. Her computer just randomly stopped displaying the screensaver after the set amount of time went by. It doesn't even put the monitor in standby after an hour. Does anyone have an idea as to why it is doing this? If more info is needed, please ask. Thanks.

A recent discussion went on for weeks about this one. They never found it from what I read.

Until you discover the cause just head to the Power control panel and set the display to power down in some number of minutes.

"It doesn't even put the monitor in standby after an hour."

I even set the monitor to turn off after one hour and it still doesn't turn off. It just stays on.

Could a solution just be to either repair the OS or use Dell's System Recovery thing where it takes you back to the time when the computer left the factory? Other problems such as programs not launching and constant "blue screens of death" have been occurring as well. Your suggestion for her?

Then make it a warranty issue.

"new Dell Dimension"

Let them do their work.

There are many pests like spyware and more but your post contains nothing about what you've done to abate the pests that I've found to cause this. A little history is needed too. Too often it's that last update or addition which I uninstall or roll back with System Restore.

The bottom line is there is no single cause for this one.

I took a peek at your other posts. I know it's tough but sharing background on the information is key. But some of these issues have no specific cure but can find direction as the member tells more.

Best of luck in your search,

Bob
