Screen shortcuts

May 18, 2014 6:46AM PDT

In many programs there are keyboard shortcuts . They are shown as capital letters with a line underneath. How does one use them? I've tried the letter with control key, shift key and alt key and frequently combinations of them but cant get any response.
Can anyone help?

Frankly it's a quagmire or stinky mess.

In days of yore I could count on the Underline in the Menu to mead the Alt+thatkey to work. There's a lot of sloppy code out there plus you have folk that don't know what "focus" means in the Windows vernacular. I suggest you report failures to any App author when the accelerator or shortcut key combos fail.

Generally speaking, you have to press the alt key, let up, THEN whatever letter is underlined; two separate key presses. It's not a hard and fast rule, but should work 95% or better of the time.
