screen shifts down by itself

by chef3 / February 14, 2007 7:29 PM PST

recently my screen started shifting down by itself and the mouse icon shifts across the screen at the same time. It doesn't really create a big problem but I fear it may be a symptom of a virus or something. I am using a HP A1310n computer with a AMD Athlon 64 and Firefox. Also Windows Media. Anybody have any ideas ? I have restored to earlier time to no avail. I use Stumble a lot but steer clear of "bad" sites as much as possible but links have occasionally taken me to some pretty seamy sites. I also have the usual array of anti-spyware and Spyware Blaster. Everything says i'm virus free but problem persists.

- Desktop or laptop?
- What kind of mouse (USB or PS/2)?
- Did you try another mouse already?
- If laptop: did you try to deactivate the touchpad?

It seems more like hardware than like software, to me.
