screen saver for LG TV

Aug 4, 2014 3:34AM PDT

I'm using LG 42LN542Y LCD LED TV as a PC screen and I was wondering about using a screen saver.

I use a black screen as my screen saver.

Is that better than turning the TV off ?
Does the screen turn off the led lights( or at list some of them... ) when it's on black screen.

does that save power in any way ?

The old on/off question has thousands of answers.

You can read them all and decide or just make up your own mind. As to the black screen it's rare to see any set turn off the LED backlight entirely but that LED should last for decades so I can't see the concern there. Image retention however hard as it can be to induce is possible on LCD but that's not your question.

For power, you get it on the Watt meter and measure. Do not do this any other way.

You should read the manual or visit the support website. Most newer TVs should automatically turn itself OFF after a time of inactivity. However, since its connected to a PC that *MAY* interfere as it maybe sending a signal that either defeats the auto-OFF feature or delays it. the best test of that is to walk away for at least 1Hr. and check results. If the TV itself has a setting, do what is required to get what you want. The point is, even if the TV is a monitor, its real general use is as a TV and may act accordingly by default. i can only offer that better TVs tend to auto-OFF to save itself. So having an active screen saver, you're sending a signal that displays whatever, though i suggest if that's the case, it be NOT a *static* one.
