Screen resolution problem!?! Please help!

Jul 2, 2007 3:19AM PDT

I have just run a windows xp reinstall on my dell inspiron 1100, and my new windows image is too small for my laptop screen, leaving giant black borders around the image. In the display settings, the screen resolution meter will not slide from "less" (640 x 480 pixels) to "more". The color quality only has one option in the dropdown menu, and that option is "Medium (16 bit)." I have installed the driver cd that came with the machine, but nothing changed. Does anyone have any suggestions for me???

system info:

Windows XP Professional
version 2002
service pack 1

Intel(R)
Celeron(R) CPU 2.00GHz
1.99 GHz
640 MB of RAM

Thanks to anyone who can offer me any help!

Jenny

Install the video drivers

That will fix your resolution problem. You should have gotten a (usually) blue CD with the laptop that says something about drivers and utilities. That's where you'll find them.

Still didn't work...

I put in the driver cd, and there were a number of different video drivers listed. I tried installing a few of them, and I got a message that said that the setup was unable to find components that can be installed on my current h'ware or s'ware config.

One of the video drivers was successfully installed, but after the obligatory restart, nothing changed.

any ideas???

Thanks for your help!
