Screen Goes Blank - Function Keys?

by cookrd1 / November 4, 2004 6:23 PM PST

Whenever I leave my computer unattended, when I come back, the screen is blank. When I touch the mouse, I get the Windows logon screen. However, everything is still working.

Since my cat likes to lay on the keyboard, I suspect that some function key sequence has been initiated to cause this. I have checked the power settings and this is not the problem. I can just barely see the faint icons on the function keys and do not have any idea as to what they mean.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Bob

Obviously, set keybd up against monitor or on top. Simple fixes are the best. Cats also like to chew low voltage wires.
Recheck display properties>screensaver>advanced to see if monitor is turned off after 15min, also Hdd shutdown (1hr or more?).

This is an XP thing. You have more than one account and power settings set to turn off monitor/HDD after "X" number of mins. I've also see this happen when the screen saver kicks in with multi accounts.

Another one of Bill Gates user freindly features.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
