Resolved Question

Screen goes black sporadically

Oct 2, 2018 7:09AM PDT

My computer was turned off for 2 weeks and now that I have turned it back on, the screen is temporarily (about 1 second) going black continuously. I have tried starting in safe mode and uninstalling the display adapter (?) as recommended on the Microsoft support page. Windows 10, Acer Aspire computer 2015 Please keep it simple! Thanks

After trying everything, I figured out that the problem was my older monitor that can't be updated (don't get me started). The problem started after the last Windows 10 update. I bought a new monitor and everything is fine... until a future update, I guess. ☹

Try a Windows Key sequence to wake the screen
Simultaneously press the Windows logo key + Ctrl + Shift + B.

If Windows is responsive, a short beep will sound and the screen will blink or dim while Windows attempts to refresh the screen. If this does not work.

please go on to the second solution,
Here are the steps:

From Start, search for msconfig

Select System Configuration from the search results.

On the Services tab of the System Configuration dialog box, tap or click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then tap or click Disable all.

On the Startup tab of the System Configuration dialog box, tap or click Open Task Manager.

On the Startup tab in Task Manager, for each startup item, select the item and then click Disable.

Close Task Manager.

On the Startup tab of the System Configuration dialog box, tap or click OK, and then restart the computer.

Bad idea!

Why disable your antivirus? The least you should have told is that this is just an experiment, it's only for diagnostic purposes and should be undone as soon as possible.
Moreover, since services by definition run in the background and don't do anything with the screen, it's quite unlikely to fix the issue of a screen going black temporarily.
