Screen goes black after passing bios boot screen

by andantesash / April 17, 2014 1:10 AM PDT

Does anyone know what would cause the screen to go black after displaying the boot screen where you can press F2 / F4 etc. I can get into the bios and into the F4 for recovery.

But the minute it goes past that screen normally, it just stays black and can't see anything (no windows load logo, no white cursor etc)

Hope someone can help

Could be unsupported video mode.

In that case a boot to Safe Mode and setting the video mode there might help. Is there more to the story such as factory restore doesn't work?

How long do you wait before concluding that nothing happens? I've seen Windows doing a chkdsk while the black screen was shown and that can take quite long. Is there any disk activity (sound of the disk, if you have no SSD; flickering disk LED) or is it total silence and darkness?

If you can't boot into Safe Mode either (keep hitting f8 between the BIOS screen and the black screen to do that), it might be time to use that F4 to go back to factory conditions and see what happens.

And it was black screen for about a minute. So let's say this was some other CPU and not much RAM, I can see where it could sit there for many minutes.
