screen freezes

my screen freezes when scrolling quickly or the pc is idle for some time , and i have to use the reboot button to start again, there is no similarity in the time can be 60 secs or an hour before this happens, i use windows xp and a time tower which is abt 6 years old, i have a flat screen monitor ansd use a4 wireless optical mouse and keyboard,
can anyone give suggestions as to how i might resolve this problem

What computer, OS, browser are you using?

Could be a heat issue. Try removing the cover and blowing out any dust bunnies, trash, etc.

Scan for/remove any7 viruses, ad/spyware.

im sorry im not very knowledgable here
i dont even know what u are asking me what is an OS ? and im using internet explorer 6 i think lol,is that what u meant when u said browser or is it outlook express 6 lol. i have cleaned the back of the pc too, it happens mostly when im on the internet , i have avast anti spyware set up on the pc and i did a reigistry optimzer the other day to get rid of lots of junk on the pc,
i would be greatful for any more help you can give me lol im sitting here in glasgow scotland

OS means operating system,such as xp,vista....

Your browser is IE6.

Regarding registry optimizer,be careful with registry cleaners since they can cause problems.

I suggest using CCLEANER,which is not as aggressive and offers three versions.I use slim build which is english only and no yahoo toolbar.LINK
