screen darkens but still running in background

by uckthis / January 28, 2010 2:13 AM PST

I have a compaq pc model #SR1830NX running xp.
I've had this problem for awhile.
When coming out of hibernation my screen darkens, yet is still running .
I've found if I press my sleep button about 10 times the screnn suddenly goes brighter and then stays on and works normal.
Have swept the unit for bugs and haven't had any success.
Does anybody know what might by causing this and how to fix?
Thanks Dan (uckthis)

Corrupt driver or OS. This is usually fixed by using the restore feature or media.

Small chance this will help but is the cable between the tower and monitor in securely?
