Screen Color Issues with Dell XPS 15 when on Battery !

Sep 17, 2011 9:26PM PDT

Bought a new Dell XPS 15 laptop, 1 week back.

Config : Intel Core i5, Nvidia GeForece GT 540M ( Optimus ) with Intel HD onboard Graphic, 8 GB RAM

The issue is that the color of the screen looks unreal, like the color of icons fade and look like 256 bit color mode and whitish and faded.

The main point is that the issue only occurs when the system is operating on battery. Is the issue with Optimus Technology ?

I have the latest drivers, Would should be my course of action now ?

It's common for laptops to have a lower brightness when working on battery, to have a longer battery lif. But they also have an option (a function key or such) to adjust the brightness to your liking.
So your course of action should be to read the user manual, I think.

(and I think it's unlikely) better contact Dell customer service. After all, you have warranty (so they fix it if it's broken) or you can return the machine if ti doesn't meet your reasonable requirements.

Screen Colors

I just bought XPS system - month back and my daughter sees this issue on random basis - but haven't been able to pinpoint specific condition or pattern...but i did see discoloration and it's annoying. Any luck with Dell Support. I am going to open my case with them soon.

"discoloration" or the topic of this discussion?

I'm finding folk that expected better colors than what most laptops deliver. My Dell Inspiron of 2011 delivers what I would write here is barely acceptable.

But the topic is about how it changes with battery or AC power. Now that is well known to those that use laptops and notice the power options. But who today wants to learn the machines?
