SCM Microsystems SCR331 Smartcard Reader Issues

by hewlett1 / June 23, 2010 8:32 AM PDT

I apologize if this has been dealt with in another forum.

I'm trying to use the SCR331 SmartCard reader (USB/CCID capable) with a MacBook Pro (10.5). I've downloaded and installed the newest driver from SCM. However, the card is not recognized by the reader, even though the green light is on. In fact, when the card is inserted, the green light flashes continuously, with no window opening on the screen. Any suggestions?

Other than the driver for the reader,

you require other software to actually do something with the certificates on the card.

My place of business uses the RSA Client to handle all the certificates on the card. Without the RSA Client, the reader will just flash when the card is inserted

Thanks so much for the quick reply. Any idea of a good source for the RSA client for the Mac? I searched and found a Cisco application, but is that the correct one to interface with the SCM device?

It might help if we knew

what the purpose of the card and reader was.

Where did the card come from?
Usually the issuer also provides, usually for a fee, the software that goes with the card. They also provide the software for the backend servers that process the certificates that are on the card.

I did not find an RSA client for the Mac, doesn't mean it does not exist though. Even if it did, there is a whole infrastructure that deals with the issue of certificates.
Are there any certificates on the card now?
