Scientific Atlantic 8300HD to PC

I'm trying to connect my DVR to my PC through firewire or some other cable. The firewire port interacts with the PC but it is looking for drivers. I want to burn a saved program to DVD.
1. What do I have to do (step by step?)
1. What is the proper setup for this configuation?
2. Where can I find software?
