ScanSoft wants to install

by volvogirl / November 20, 2011 2:00 AM PST

Started a new topic for this. Don't know if it has to do w/ my installing sp3 yesterday and all the problems I had Thursday. But when I right click on some desktop icons or right click in the folder directory list it wants to install Scansoft PDF Create 4, which I have and works. I did use it after I installed sp3. Do I need to reinstall it?

I remember years ago there was a trick to stop things from trying to install.

If you use it, I'd uninstall it and reinstall it. The installer may be stuck in limbo.

or rather a Microsoft utility called the Microsoft Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, but Microsoft stopped using it because it damaged a certain Office Suite, Office 2007 as described here;

However, it is still available at various sites, eg here;

If uninstalling, (reboot, then) reinstalling ScanSoft does not solve the issue, then you can try that.

Something I had to do once with the windows installer.

I found my ScanSoft disc so I let the install run and it only needed to find one file on the disc, the .msi file. Maybe it got lost when I did all the clean up and repair. I sure had to browse around the disc to find it. But then it completed and isn't giving me any more trouble.
