Question

Scanning

I have a new HP PC with Windows 10 and a Canon MP980 printer/scanner.
When I scan a document, the scan always appears in Photos. I then attach the scanned document to an email but when I open the attachment, in addition to the scanned image, all my photos are in the attachment. I cannot find a way of preventing the sacn from going to the photos file or extracting the scanned image from the photos file.

Regards, raygfc

Well I have the older 870.

As to the first problem it sounds like pilot error. Maybe you need to 2 step it until you figure out the misstep.

1. Open the image in paint, select all and press control+C
2. Switch to the email and press Control+V.

As to where the image gets saved might be part of your scanner software.
So look around in that area and see if you can change the destination.

As to putting the image in an e-mail this might depend on your e-mail prog.
For what I'm using it's just a matter of
Open the mail prog.
Click on insert image.
Navigate to the image I want and open it.
It's now part of the e-mail.

Thank you so much. I was able to send my urgent emails although, after "select all", I used copy and paste.
I now think the problem is not the scanner. I received an email with two attachments. One a Word document which opened normally. The other a catalogue cover which opened in my photos file.
How do I resolve the pilot error?

Try this

In reply to: Scanning

Don't open files directly from your email app. Save the file then open it from the app you want it to open with.

Thanks. With the help of your suggestions I can get by.
But I think Microsoft could make it easier.

Well, there are ways to open from inside email.

But I'm working with you at a distance so I can't tell where the exact issue is here.

If you save the file and the matching app does not launch when you double click the file, that's an association issue. And widely discussed. When this happens, you usually get a prompt or question what to open it with.

To avoid all that and get back to work, the save the file and open it with the app of choice is an instant fix.
