scanning e-mail attachments

Dec 12, 2003 11:31PM PST

I am using Windows ME and outlook express 6. I have OE set to not let me open or save any attachments that can be potentially harmful however I make it a point to "NEVER" open attachments. Sometimes I get an e-mail with an attachment from a friend that I'd really like to open but I won't because shes really a newbie on the computer and Im not sure whether she's updating her virus definitions although I told her how.

My question is how can I scan the e-mail attachment without opening it? I think I know how but am not sure.

Thanks
Nancy

If you save the attachment, most Antivirus programs will scan it as it opens or saves...

The current versions of the best antivirus programs will scan your attachments as you download them. If an attachment is infected, it won't even make it to your inbox.
