A camera would have many advantages as I can adjust lighting, focus and more. I can't guess why i would use a scanner instead of a camera for such work but as your scanned image seems fine enough to pick up detail needed for identification, I think it did a good enough job.

I have an HP Officejet Pro 8500 A910, which I thought was supposed to be a pretty good scanner. Photos and documents scan well, and we have never had a problem and are very satisfied with the copy, fax, scan capabilities........BUT, I tried to scan a simple coin yesterday, and this is what I got

It should look more like this

even though that's a photo, you can see that the scanner image is not clear at all, and should be much clearer. I've tried to find some adjustments I can make, but besides brightness and contrast and dpi adjustments, nothing seems to work. Any suggestions? Thanks. Ed.
