Scanner/Printer, low profile, low ink cost

Feb 7, 2005 4:42AM PST

I'm looking for a multi-function device to attach to my HTPC with a couple of parameters:

* Small size -- low profile, small footprint.
* Low noise when not printing.
* Good quality, fast color photo scanning.
* Reasonable ink costs
* USB2

Any suggestions for this combo? At a local electronics store, I saw a Brothers MFC 210c and a couple of HPs (1209, 1350) which had the right footprint/size characteristics, but the scanning ratings are mixed.

printerdb.com is very thin

Well, I've already done the simple homework on this. I had already looked on printerdb.com before I posted. Alas, they really only include a few models of MFCs. The spreadsheet comparing systems doesn't actually have the size, but I looked up every model they rated.

It's your work...

Or rather your research. I know to look at that to compare basic printing costs across models and designs. Then I have to consider what models are available today.

Since this is a world wide forum, it does us no good for me to mention any Sieko printers.

We appreciate the plug for our website, but we were a little confused by the reference to "only include a few models of mfc's". We currently have info on every desktop mfc on the market today (all-in-one is the terminology we use) with cost per page, total cost of operation and specs - 46 inkjet aio's and 40 laser aio's at this point.

We separate them in categories of like products. In the case of inkjet aio's it is based on whether they have an adf (automatic document feeder), on their print speed and whether they are a 4-color or photo unit.

We are a new site and have put most of our effort into the cost per page and tco info, which you can't find anywhere else (amazingly). But, we are constantly adding new things based on visitor input and expanding the specs area is in the works, so in the future you will see much more depth in that area as well (along with some slick new search capabilites.

In the meantime, thanks for visiting!!!
