Question

Scanned pictures blurred

Jul 23, 2015 11:21AM PDT

Hi,

I've bought a multifunction printer/scanner (Samsung CLX-3175FW) quite a while ago
and actually never used it for scanning. In the future I will have to use if for scanning so I intend to repair it (I've already fixed some electronical devices like playstation, mobild phone, laptops, etc.)

The scanned pictures are quite blurred, so I first thought of cleaning it but unfortunately that didn't solve the problem.

Here are some pictures for comparison. The left one is the one I wish to repair (CLX-3175FW), one the right my own scanner (SCX-4623F)

Could anyone give me some information what could cause this problem? As I mentioned before, I've already repaired some other electronical devices so I intend to repair it on my own (rather than having repaired)

Answer
To me it looks like the line scanner part.

Scanners used to use a line scanner element (for this discussion I'm not going to discuss deeper aspects of this part as the part is replaced, not repaired.)

It was also CCD based (sorry folk, but what a CCD is and it's failure modes are on the web so again I shortchange you as we don't repair this part.)

As it ages you see what you see in your images. My bet would be the line scanner element/part.
