Scanned document to Excel conversion

Can anyone recommend the best way to do this and any software i need. (preferably free)

That might depend on what it is scanned to: could be a bitmap (bmp), a Word document (via OCR), a jpg (can be a feature of the scanning software), a pdf-file (same) or whatever. Can you tell that?

Practically speaking, the only way to do this is retyping it via the keyboard.
