Scanjet 3300c/ Windows XP

May 4, 2005 12:32AM PDT

Just upgraded to Windows XP, SP2, Home Edition.
My HP Scanjet 3300c was performing well in W98.

Cannot get HP's LT Scanning software to recognize the scanner.

A check of the Device Manager states the scanner is operating properly.

The software & driver were installed from the upgraded CD I purchased from HP.

Have tried several work arounds/ trouble shooting schemes and still no scanner.

Noticed "Al" had a similar problem w/ his Scanjet 4300. Saw no replies.

Help!!

Notes about what you did to install drivers for the PC such as latest BIOS, motherboard drivers and ... more.

Microsoft doesn't do this for us.

Thanks for the reply, Bob.

The system is an "antique." Pine Motherboard IBX. Latest BIOS was published in 1999. I am running dual P3s/ 450MHz.

The scanner did fine under W98. I am assuming the HP CD I bought included drivers for XP. Prior to buying the disk I downloaded the file from HP's site; this, to has the drivers.

This is the only peripheral I am having trouble with since upgrading.

Intel's .INF motherboard driver package?

Is the scanner noted in the Device Manager?

Thank you, again, Bob.

No, I have not found/ downloaded/ installed Intel's .INF file. That is a new one on me!

Yes, the scanner is reconized in Device Manager under Imaging Devices (It is a Serial Bus interface).

Rats!! Should have mentioned that sooner, huh!

Sorry.

The problem seems to be resolved, Bob.

This morning I started fresh, deleting the driver & imaging software. Used the Wizard & reinstalled the driver, then reinstalled the software. It works.

I apologize for the flap. Have not a clue where I went wrong first time (second, third, etc.)

Thanks again,

Terry

Don't give it a second thought. Even I have install problems and just need the "do over."

It works if you reinstall the software everytime you want to use your scanner! Disable Windows Image Acquisition. WIA conflicts with the HP driver. Also disable USB Power Management. To disable WIA: START/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services/Windows Image Acquisition/Startup Type/DISABLE/Apply/OK. Note you may have to redo this after installing Windows Updates or Service Packs. To disable USB Power Management: Start-Control Panel-System-Hardware-Device Manager-USB Controllers-USB Root Hub-Properties-Power Management- UNCHECK "Allow computer to turn off this device to save power" - OK.
