Saving media

I own a JVC GZ-MC500AG digital camera. my probblem is that I am spending six weeks touring in Europe how do I save the heaps of movie and stills that I will be taking each day. What are my options? Would internet cafes have the facilities to save the data to CD and DVD, is there some bulk storage unit I could buy, or should I bite the bullet and buy a laptop with a CD/DVD burner and make back-ups as I go. Help please.

I was not aware that this camera even existed.

For others, here is a link:

Apparently you will be sending video to a 4 GB microdrive card plugged into a compact flash slot, and sending still shots to a SD Memory Card.

If you take much video you will be needing a large hard drive to put it on. Even larger than storage devices have available, and larger than the hard drive in a laptop.

You will need to burn each days shooting onto a DVD.

Anyone know anything about internet cafes in Europe??

Since you'll be using either Compact Flash or Secure Disk memory card type. I suggest you buy a portable storage. Inside equipped with hard-drive ( around 40-80 GB capacity )and alternative battery types, such as internal batteries, Lithium batteries, AA batteries, and AAA batteries. Some of them are available in the US market.

1. Epson P-2000
2. X-drive
3. Compact Drive
4. Nexto
5. Xs-drive

Good luck.

Internet cafes

I would not rely on doing much at internet cafes except checking email unless the ones you plan to go to are a lot fancier that the ones I have found.

I always travel with a laptop and battery chargers for our cameras. If I was in your situation I would probably get a laptop with a DVD drive capable of burning double layer DVD+R discs.
