Saving Graphics Suddenly Inoperative

I use Windows XP Pro and Netscape 7+. For some time I have been unable to save graphics to folders on my portable hard drive (which I acquired just to hold graphics and audio files and thus not burden my main drive). There's plenty of free space on the portable drive, and I can access its folders and files easily. I just can't save anything anymore. Is there some setting in either Win XP or Netscape that would preclude--or interfere with--saving muletimedia files?
