1. Open Office.
Found with google.com, it's for Linux, Windows and... MacOSX. Very compatible with Office files and free.
2. Keep shopping for a replacement CD drive. There are compatible drives and should cost less than 99 bucks. (much less)
My Powerbook G4 CD drive broke. It needs to be replaced -- $350. I have to buy Microsoft office -- $170, and a wireless card -- $80 (the computer is 3 yrs old)...or I could spend it on a new PC. All I need to do is use MS word and wireless internet access, so I don't need a lot of memory or DVD player etc but I want at least a 15" screen. I've been looking at the Sony VAIO FS730W & the HP DV 1420 US. Any suggestions for a very simple computer that can do word processing and wireless, nothing fancy? Does anyone know how I can get Word for the Mac over the internet or where I can sell it?
