Question

'Save Link As' brings document - not file wanted!

Aug 24, 2018 12:11AM PDT

I want to download a software onto a usb Flash Drive. When i Right click and 'Save Link As' all I get is a Document and not the Application or software wanted.
What must I do in order to get the Application / Software, every time, please? Step by step details would be appreciated. Thank you.

It seems like you do it correctly and it's an error of the site. But to be sure we need details: on what webpage (full url please) do you click on what link (clear description please).

Does it work if you just double click to download it to your download folder? Then copy it from there to your USB stick?

Ok, above is the link to test. Try for Converter 4.0.0.5 See if it will show as an Application in the 'File Type' box when you right click and Save Link As. All I get is a Document and not the software wanted! All the best...

Yes, you're doing it wrong. This is the right way:
1. Click the link for 4.0.0.5. This opens another page.
2. On that other page, click the download button in the upper right corner. The file will be downloaded (I assume, I didn't try).
3. Copy the downloaded file from the download folder to the USB-stick, if that's the place you want it to be.

Re Download Save Link As

Thank you but .that is not the same as using the right click and selecting 'Save Link As'. If you try it you will find, as I do, that the File Type box reads Document and not Application. So I am still non the wiser, I am afraid.
Any one else who has experience of this? Do please write. Thank you.

That's because the link is to a html-page, not to an executable file. So your download the html-page and not an executable file. Nothing wrong. It does exactly what it should do.

Try 'copy link to clipboard' and paste it into Notepad to see.
