Save file attributes display format in WIN 7

Dec 21, 2009 11:58PM PST

I don't know if I used the right wordsa to describe the "problem."

When I look at the contents of a folder, I like to see the file name, typr, size, and date modified. If I select "Choose Details," I can see anything I want, but the next time I look at that folder I only see the file name. I have to manually (!) drag the vertical partition line to the right. How can I save the position of the moved partition line, so that when I look at a file I always see those details that I have selected.

My new monitor is 23 inches wide, so there is stilol plenty of room for a preview of the file (if I select a file, say.)

Nope. This is part of a bug that has existed since Windows95, and Microsoft has shown no interest in fixing it these past 14 years, so the odds of it getting fixed any time soon, or at all, are right about nil.

Tara, et al:

Thanks for the replies and suggestions.

I do not see "Appearance and Personalization" in my Control Panel. I also do not see "Organize" under VIEWS.

I do see Folder Options in Control Panel, but nothing that indicates that I would see a wider description of a file or folder.

HOWEVER, I must have diddled something because I now see at the bottom of my screen all the details that I would ever want! I see File Name, Size, Author, Dates Created, modified, and accessed, etc. I am "confident" that that information was not there before. I cannot change what I see. (Am I crazy?) Is that info at the bottom of the screen the normal display?

Grateful, but puzzled.

Vince

OK, I found Personalization in Control Panel, and also found Organize at the top of the screen.

I still can't widen the view for type, size, date, etc.

Is there a suggested book or series of articles that can get me through this transition from XP? Does anyone at Microsoft give any thought to transitioning from one OP to another? It almost seems that the OS developers go out of their way to make the transition painful.

Time for a MAC?

Hi Vince,

I am glad we resolved your first problem (for the most part) as far as having to reposition the file columns I don't have an answer for that. As far as transitioning from XP to Windows 7 the best solution is to familiarize yourself with the features. You can go to the Windows 7 website for great information to help get you started: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/discover.

Cheers,
Tara
