Satoru Iwata, Nintendo CEO, is angry at "Angry Birds" ?

Mar 7, 2011 8:03PM PST

Dear Buzz Gang and Crew,
It appears that at the Game Developers Conference, Satoru Iwata, Nintendo CEO, had some strong words about the gaming industry and the popularity of casual games on mobile devices. He evidently hates "Angry Birds"!

Some Quotes:
"I fear our business is dividing in a way that that threatens the continued employment of those of us who make games."

"Is maintaining high value games a top priority, or not?"

"Game development is drowning."

"They are not like gaming consoles, there's no motivation [for] high-value video games"

Huh dude, get with the program....literally!

With the smart phones we see the end of an era.

Buggy whip analogies seem appropriate here since we have no need for an Nintendo DS, mp3 or other such players.

It's time for Mario to go to the land of iPhones and pads.

@SXSW Peter Vesterbacka talks smack, "Consoles are Dead"
Mar 13, 2011 9:39PM PDT

Dear Buzz Gang and Crew,
I did not see this one coming, at South by Southwest in Austin, Peter Vesterbacka, CEO of Rovio, maker of "Angry Birds" had some choice words for the gaming console industry.

Quotes:
"Innovation in gaming has clearly moved into mobile and social"

"We're of course looking at the whole online social experience," he said. "We are working on a game that will involve Facebook ... really the plan is to make Angry Birds playable everywhere."

"It seems like our fans really love to wear and play with Angry Birds physical toys as well"

Ok, I admit "Angry Birds" is a great game but Rovio needs to be careful of being a "one hit wonder". One thing is for sure, Nintendo's CEO is angry at "Angry Birds".

This is going to be fun to watch.
