...which is designed to transfer the signal out to an S-Video "In" which resides on a larger TV monitor..Although it is technically possible to run the data from the DirectTV receiver to the laptop for recording, you'll need to make sure that the laptop has a TV-in tuner card which is designed to accept and decode the data it receives.
Of course, then you would also need the correct software to record and edit the video...
Hope this helps.

I noticed S-video on the back of our DirectTV receiver/DVR and also one on the back of my laptop. I was wondering what it is for, what it does and if the 2 units can be connected together to transfer data? If not with the S-video, does anyone know of a way to transfer the info from the DVR to a computer to burn CD's or DVD's?
Thanks a bunch,
