SATA vs ATA (reliability?)

Jun 22, 2006 11:50PM PDT

I know that SATA claims to be faster than ATA (regardless of whether it really is or not, I don't care). What I was wondering is if there is any reliability difference between the drives? Also what would be a good brand of drive to go with? I'm looking for reliability here.

Easy to find out.

If we look at the drive maker's web sites and what data they offer, you find there is no increase or decrease of MTBF or other numbers.

Most reliability issues pale in comparison to user errors, accidents, theft, virus, pests, poor installations and other problems.

sata and ata are just interfaces

the mechanical drive is still the same. western digital will make a 250gb drive and fit it with an ultra ata interface and a sata interface. the reliability is the same for both drives.

suggested brands are western digital, seagate, and hitachi. i'd avoid maxtor since they were just bought out by seagate.
