SATA stops CDs from booting

Apr 30, 2006 11:18PM PDT

Ive installed a new Abit AV8-3rd Eye motherboard into my computer along with 3500+ and X850XT (AGPCool.

The computer runs absolutely fine when running an ATA IDE Hard-Drive. The Windows XP Home CD boots straight away even no hard-drive is plugged in.

But when i plug my Maxtor SATA1 300GB in. The CD just hangs on:

"Boot from CD :"

Why is the SATA stopping the CD from booting?

Did you go into BIOS and set the proper boot order?

What is your goal? Are you trying to instll Windows XP on the SATA HD, or are you currently running Windows XP on your IDE HD and want to add the SATA HD as a secondary drive?

Depending on your SATA settings in BIOS, you may need to install the SATA/RAID driver that came with the motherboard. If you are adding the SATA HD as a secondary drive, disconnect it, boot to Windows, and install SATA/RAID driver.
