sasser worm

Jul 27, 2004 10:26PM PDT

My grandson has a sasser worm on his PC that makes it keep rebooting. He can't keep it online long enough to download any of the removal tools listed at Microsoft. I'm wondering, if I install Norton on it, will it remove the worm without having to go online and download something first? He has Windows XP, 56K data fax modem. He is 15 and this is his first PC so he is a little ulpset, Happy Thanks

Since, you've posted to this forum, access to another computer??? Get the tools you need, burn them to a CD, and carry that CD to use on the infected system. You can try Norton, but most AV pgms. need to be updated for best operation. Plus, the tools you have on the CD, should be directly related to sasser in order to be the most effective. Plus, sasser the removal info is posted at Norton and many other AV websites, check it out thier information.

I would not attempt to use Norton CD to remove a know virus. Access the Internet with another computer and go to Google using Keyword "sasser removal". You will find several sites with a removal tool that fit on a floppy.

System Restore will have to be turned off via Control Panel -> System. Restore files are protected and cannot be changed by virus removal tools.

Delete Temp Files, Cookies, Temp Internet Files then run Removal Tool. Then go online for security updates and install an Anit-virus application.
