Sansa c240 not recognized by computer

Dec 26, 2010 6:59AM PST

I purchased a Sandisk Sansa c240 (1 GB) mp3 player for my Dad for Christmas. I thought it would be a breeze to use since I've had the exact same player for a few years now and love it. Wrong. When I plug it in to the computer, it does not recognize the player at all. Yet when I plug MY player in, it recognizes it immediately. I realize this is an older model player, but what is going on? It was purchased online in its original unopened packaging and everything else about it works (turns on, I can scroll through the menu, listen to the radio, etc.). I've tried all the basic things like unplugging everything, restarting my computer, formatting the player, etc. Nothing. I'm using Windows XP if that helps. As I said, my other identical player works fine with my computer so I'm at a loss. I emailed Sandisk tech support, but who knows when I'll hear from them. Would appreciate any advice/opinions.

Thanks!

although I charged it overnight and the next morning the original battery was still reading "battery low", so I switched out that battery for the one in my identical player. Exact same battery. Fully charged. Computer still won't recognize.

I really don't want to have to return it since I bought it online and that would be a pain. But I will if Sandisk can't resolve this. Still waiting to hear from them. Anyone have any ideas?
