Sandisk e200 vs. Samsung Z5 vs. the Nano

Mar 16, 2006 9:41PM PST

These three mp3 players seem to be vying for the so very lucrative high capacity flash mp3 market. Each has its own strengths and weaknesses.

Who shall win the Struggle for the Market Share?

It's pretty obvious

The Nano will still reign supreme until Apple releases a successor simply because it's massively advertised and a lot of people tend go with the crowd. Most are tech-illiterate, and don't want to go through the hassle of converting stuff for the e200. AS for the YP-Z5, no one's going to know about it. The only difference between it and the nano is it's larger screen, so everyone's going to go for the "in" iPods.

My Opinion

I'm personally getting the e200, though.

i disagree

The Z5 and E200 look pretty polished compared to the spartan Nano. The Z5 has a bigger screen, an 35hr battery life, and a brilliant design. The e200 has a tonne of features (the expansion slot & video etc.)and a not too shabby appearance. Some of my friends who bought the Nano a couple months earlier (or got it for Christmas)are regretting the fact they could have been a little bit more patient and waited for the Z5 and e200.

The Nano is an antiquated machine in the light of the Z5 and e200. The Ipod is going down.

going down - Not likely

You said the Nano is going down, but you are forgetting about iTunes, the other half of the equation. Content content content, all in one place that's really easy to obtain and sync with the nano, for us none geeks.

Stay away from the Z5. I tried it yesterday and it takes a rocket scientist to master the nav controls.

Hm

I kinda liked the Samsung's controls... but each to his own.

ya, me 2 - no prob w/ controls despite the review.

Now if I could just figure out if it supports integrated ID3 Tag album art......

Yeah to each his own but...

you have to agree, though ingenious there is a steep learning curve (It comes with instructions) unlike the iPod nano.

Not the Nano.

If you are deciding it would be ******** to buy the Nano over the e200 because the e200 is better in every way, including price.

Most definitly the e200 because of its plethora of features, better battery, removable battery, movie capability, larger capacity, card slot, and lower price.

Sandisk (Hopefully)

I am rooting for the Sandisk e200 series, because its simply more generous in features for a lower price. Its everything I want(and need) for a way better price and better looking package then the Nano. I dont expecially like the Samsung, as it looks unfinished with the screws and kind of shabby overall look.

Obviously the nano

No one except Apple advertises. No one will know about the sandisk or the samsung. How can someone buy something they don't know exist? Everyone knows the nano exist, therefor people will buy it.

I personally thing the samsung player is crap though. Looks ugly.

good point

Why don't the other mp3 manufacturers (e.g. Sandisk, Samsung, Iriver) advertise more if they advertise at all Is there a rationale behind their abhorance of advertising? It looks as if they are just surrendering to Apple on every marketing front.

Yeah

Creative and Cowon may lack the money to start a huge marketing campaign, but bigger companies like Sandisk and Samsung should be putting out plenty of commercials, etc. But if things keep going at this rate, the Nano will destroy the competition, no matter how many techies buy the E200.

It seems like the selection is pretty good: get the Sandisk if you want features, the Nano if you want thin, or the Samsung if you want battery life (I think the Sandisk looks the best; tons of features, and the light-up mechanical scrollwheel is sweet).

Does anyone know anything about the system noise issue at low volumes? This seems failry concerning.

Nano will go down, e200 and Z5 will go up
Mar 19, 2006 4:27PM PST

I think that people who know at least a little bit about technology will buy e200 or Z5. These two players definitely have better performance than the Nano. I myself wanted a Nano before, but I didn't want it anymore when my friend's Nano (the black version) scratched so easily and now, it looks like a beautiful girl in an ugly dress (the skin for the iPod, I mean, lol).
iPod was already popular anywhere on earth, so the Nano'sell will not decrease in a short time. If the e200 and the Z5 are more well-known to the public (by advertising), music lovers will choose them. The e200 and the Z5 are both thin, good looking, and scratch-proof (a good thing, for sure). I prefer the e200 since it has most features, more than the Nano and the Z5, and the e200 has very friendly user interface, which I really like a lot. I'd choose the Z5 if the navigation touch pad was better. I did try the Z5 at Best Buy, well, if you want to move up or move down the song list, you have to tap continuously on the touch pad or keep touching your finger on it, and it'd be hard to select the song easily. That's not so nice.
