SanDisk 1 GB vs. iRiver 1 GB MP3 players

Nov 9, 2004 7:03AM PST

Which one should I get? the new SanDisk 1 GB (SDMX11024A1Cool or the iRiver IFP-799T (1 GB)?

I know the basic specs of both players. The Sandisk is smaller, uses an AAA battery and is good for 15 hours of play. The iRiver uses an AA battery and is good for 40 hours of play. Both have FM tuner and recorder.

What I need to know is: what about the sound quality? what about FM reception? and the navigation? etc? how do they compare? Can anyone help me? Any opinions?

Many thanks.

iRiver mp3 player

I used to have an iRiver from the 300 series with 256mb, but sadly someone stole it. I am now buying a new one. I LOVED the one I had, especially the shape, but I cant find it in stores anymore (I don't like buying online.) Any ideas where to find it and if it comes with 512mb??? I hate the shape and look of the 700 series. HELP!

I am not sure about that one
But if you don't like the 700 series
Have you tried the 800 series?

Shape and style may be nice... BUT,

The new IRIVERS have a boost in the output. (Power to the headphones... at an 18mw). Older IRIVER's, hit at 8-9. This IS the biggest difference between a Samsung, Sandisk and IRiver..... The IRIVER tops the chart when played through Sennheiser headphones etc. Go for the power!!

Go for the IRIVER...

I even know of IRIVER knock off companies selling the exact IRIVER appearance (plastic, colors, menu's etc), but without the IRIVER logo.
Anyway... People sell these saying they have the same chip etc for memory......

It comes down to the output... SERIOUSLY. The NEW IRivers will run hefty $100+ headphones. The samsung and sandisk will lag on power!!

Each one has a good price point etc etc, But the IRIVER blew me away on sound quality with the OEM headbud phones... and my after market Sennheisers.

IRiver only made the upgrade in the past 2years... IRIVER's older units only had 8mw to each headphone on output. Now they're at 18!!!!

The new IPOD is at 13mw. I swear IRiver is the only company I've seen craming a bigger amp in there units.

iRiver 700 vs. 800 series

From what I have read about the iRiver line, I can't tell much difference, if any, between the 1 Gig iRiver 799 and 899. Logic says there must be a difference (other than the shape and design of the shell), but I can't tell what it is. I had an 899 until tonight and exchanged it for another brand (though I liked almost everything about the 899). I think I would prefer the iFP-799T because (1) it has a hard plastic, sliding USB port cover (instead of a soft rubber flap like on the 899) and (2) both the earphone port and line-in port are located next to each other on the same end of the unit. With those design differences, the 799 and 899 appear to me to be identical in every other respect.

no :) no difference

it's just a matter of productplacement
a stylish one (799) for the youth
a non-stylish one (899) fot their parents

*giggles*

i got my sandisk 1gb a couple months back and it is really good. dont need to use any other software (musicmatch, wmp etc) just like a flash driveHappy
battery life is excellent. very light- way lighter than iriver
decent voice recording but i dont use it anyway
the best thing about it is its CHEAP! (like the budgie)
very good value
go the sandisk mate!

want quality or cheapness
Jun 12, 2005 9:37PM PDT

iriver = quality
sandisk = new player and cheapness

depends on how much u really wanna spend, personally i'd get iriver for its functions and quality of build.
But then the sandisk has its advantages

Sandisk is really cheap!

I ordered one at some online website, and the price is amazing low. I researched this company, and they are best known for making memory card. I believe that's the reason why their mp3 players' price is low compared to other mp3 players.

Sandisk is my vote

Nice & slim, comes with good case, strap, earphones, has overall good stats, and is very low priced. Reviews on the product are great also.
