Samsung YP-T9 - what do you think about it?

I like my Samsung YP-T9. It sounds great. I like the interface. It plays videos; the screen is small but the quality is very good. The FM radio is sensitive and picks up a lot of stations. If you're looking for an MP3 player, and not a PVP, I highly recommend it.
About that samsung player; What's it mean if is proprietary port and UMS mode? big thanks to you
and also I read in one review that the center button gets stuck
ums mode is usb mass storage - means that you can use the device as an external drive to store files
proprietary port refers to the port on the device, it is specific to that player and manufacturer - you need a special cable to connect it to your computer. The part that connects to your computer is the usb end.
I'm considering buying this player myself. The only negatives I've heard are that transfering songs can be very slow indeed, and that the graphical user interface can lag somewhat. Other than that, it sounds like an excellent player; good sound quality, 9 band custom EQ, nice interface, durable, and attractive.
I absolutely love this player. I'm totally anti-ipod and did a great deal of research before I decided to purchase this mp3 player. My last device was an iRiver, which I love but I needed more space. Some of the newer iriver devices didn't have the technology I was seeking so I continued my search.
One word of note. Don't use the Samsung Media Studio to transfer your music. This is slow as molasses. Instead, use Windows Media Player for the sync. It works beautifully. If you buy a player, like I did initially, that doesn't allow you to sync using WMP then take it back and exchange it. My first Samsung was defective and died when I flashed the bios. Luckily, I had purchased an extended warranty from Best Buy and this worked perfectly. The second device works perfectly, has decent battery life, plays videos well, although the screen is small, has an fm tuner with presets, voice record options and the ability to use it as a portable drive. You can also view text documents on it and copy personal pics.
All around, it's a great player. I wish there were more accessories for it as I feel that this device and the K5 are going to make a lot of noise in the mp3 world. I bought the 4GB T9 and am glad I did. Most of my music is recorded at the 192kb rate, which means fewer songs but better quality. Still, I have over 500 songs on my device and, combined with my e3c headphones, this player rocks!
I just won the t9 of ebay and read your post. Just how often eletronic items are defective?? And what do you mean to sync with WMP? Also I hear d you got to becareful about the center button as they might get stuck.
Big thanks to...
syncing to wmp: WMP = Windows Media Player; you can use this bit of software to manage your music and transfer it to your player, thus syncing it. You may be able to sync your player using other software, such as RealPlayer. Or you may be able to drag and drop - using Windows Explorer to copy music from your music file on your computer to your player.
I can't say percentagewise how often electronic items are defective. However, I just read something in the Crave blog that says that Apple claims that their iPod failure rate is less than 5 percent, which according to their spokesperson is low compared to industry averages.

Whether or not I believe it, it's hard for me to say. I own mulitple iPods and none of them have failed. So I suppose I'm one of the lucky 95 percent who don't have problems. But 5 percent of 70 million iPods sold is still quite a lot, which means a lot of unhappy iPod owners.
Thanks so much for replying my post so promblty. I'm really not that tech-savvy as you can tell...so I guess like everything electronics follows the bell curve.
I do not own an ipod but I really like to litsent to podcasts, do you have any suggestions to how to download podcasts similar to the one they doing it on CNET.
Big Thanks and Happy Holidays!!
So far I'm enjoying my T9, but I was wondering if there was a way to letterbox certain video resolutions that end up getting stretched on the T9 screen?
I just kind of learn by doing and asking questions like you're doing. There's nothing wrong with that.
You can download podcasts from CNET by going to the podcast's home page (Buzz Out Loud, Gadgettes, MP3 Insider [Rest in Peace, James]) where you'll see the most recent episodes. Where it says download mp3, right click and choose "save target as" - it will download and then you can choose where to save it. You should be able to go to other websites and do the same thing.
The easiest way is to be able to do it through some sort of software (Someone help me here, please!) I've been getting all of my podcasts through iTunes and it works very well for me. All the ones I subscribe to come in mp3 format, so I can put them on non-iPod players and my pda.
I just got the player today, but where is the charger for this thing? Does it come with a seperate charger or I have to buy a charger adapter.
I've had my T9 for a while now and use the URGE music service. The problem that I have is that whenever I plug my T9 in to charge it I end up losing my licenses. The only way I've been able to get my music to play on my player again is to delete it all and resync it all. I've tried getting help from Samsung, URGE, and Microsoft. They all just give me the runaround and never really help. There has to be a better way to get it done. Any suggestions?
Yeah, you gotta charge via usb, which is a real pain if you don't want to keep your computer on. You should be able to buy an ac adapter for it.
I just got the t9, but I cant get videos on it. It says it plays mpeg4 but then I emailed samsung and they said I have to have the videos in mpeg2 to use the samsung media studio to convert them. Can anyone who has this player help me in full detail? Email me at bender_991@yahoo.com
just go to media-convert.com! there is no download required. i use it all the time =)
HELP! Can anybody tell me how to transfer a playlist/synchlist from Windows Media Player to the Samsung device so that it remains intact?
What happens with me is I create a playlist/synchlist, give it a name, then tranfer it to the YP-T9, but then it splits out into the other categories (genre, track, artist, album), with no record of the playlist, even though that's one of the categories.
Samsung tech support has NOT been too helpful... Surely there's a way.
i've try sync using not wmp11 but with mediamonkey and it didn't work as well, making playlist for samsungs players are horrible i should know b/c i own the predecessor of the t9 and i must have playlists. what i do is mimic the playlist on my pc and drag and drop the tracks onto the playlist folder of the t9. is bit tedious even if u call customer service but tell me anything about making a faster playlist
hi, reading your posting, it seems u are familiar with YP-T9. Thus, I need your help!
I was able to transfer audio files (for both WMA/MP3 format, not protected) from PC to YP-T9 using the drag-n-drop method n syncing Windows Media Player. I did not want to install the software that came with the player anymore.
I was able to play the transferred audio files in my computer. But using the player itself, the audio files are not visible and therefore I am unable to play the transferred audio files.
The 2 songs that came with the player is the only songs that i am able to play from YP-T9.
Any way to solve this problem? Kindly help coz' i m very disappointed right now.
Thanks! Hope u see this message soon.
the software is bit lackluster and often confusing but you must need it to convert video to diplay in your yp-t9. About your problem, it seems the best way is to use realplayer and sync the player. I suggest to open the yp-t9 windows and press refresh once you think audio files are finish copying from your pc to your player.
Thanks for your reply!
Actually, I have already found a way to play audio files under Music Function. I save all the music files under just one folder, the Music Folder. It cannot be segregated by album or artist.
Now, a problem i am trying to find a way to solve is the album art. Wonder why the album art is not shown when the music is being played.
Anyway, thanks for trying to help!
do you use samsung studio 5 when you convert video files to the player because everytime i try to use it, it never converts it right. it always says that the file is not supported. do you have any tips on making it work???
The T9 is on my short list of possible players. What type of external files would the UMS enable you to store. Is it really a disadvantage that the T9 doesn't have it? HAve you had problems loading video onto your player?
Pros: Great sound, great interface.FM player pretty sensitive. I transfered pictures to it and it works good. It records well too. I love it's size and sound. A real quality unit. I admit I am partial to the Samsung line.
Cons: The Sansung software that comes with it won't read the player. I got Windows Media, Real Player, and Windows Explorer and the Napster interface to read it fine. But since the Samsung software doesn't work right I haven't been able to transfer videos. Not that I would use that much.
Overall I give it an 8.5 out of 10, just because of the lousy software.
i've had software issuess as well, just yestherday i decided to upload album art to the list of songs and was not possible (wonder if i'm doing it wrong). Is it possible to alter the playlist by adding tracks, switch order on certain songs, etc...apparently i like using my playlists and make a big a fuss about it. thank you and have a great holiday seasons.
