Samsung YH-925 problems (firmware)

Jul 23, 2005 10:26AM PDT

Allright so here's the deal. I got that thing about 3-4 months ago and it was working perfectly. Not too long ago i found out that i have to install the new Janus firmware. So i took the player to my friend's house because i wanted to back up all my files (dont have enough space on my comp). He did everything installed the firmware, put all the mp3 files back. I got it back from him, went home, connected it to my computer and guess what - my comp can no longer find the damn thing! I did everything: reinstalled drivers, napster, everything! I even downloaded the drivers from samsung.com and still i cant install them. So i can only blame it on the firmware because before upgrading my player everything was allright. After the upgrade nothing is working. The player is labled as an "unknown device" (or something like that) whenever it's connected to the computer through the usb. As i said, i used my installation cd to reinstall everything multiple times, but still no results.. Anyone know how to fix this bs?

It's a warranty issue.

I do find it interesting that you noted it worked perfectly. I have learned to not tinker with perfectly working things.

Allright i went to my friend's house again yesterday to check if the device was working on his comp. He connected it and everything was fine. That MTP screen popped up. That's when it kinda hit me: he upgraded my player on his computer, so maybe my computer doesnt have the proper files installed that came with the firmware upgrade that would help my comp read the device? Could that be it?

Hi

If you go to the Microsoft download centre they have an MTP patch that you need to install before the mediaplayer will read it. To use the samsung as a usb drive switch it off and connect the cable whilst holding down the forward button (the topmost button on the right side).

Hope this helps

Owen

I have kicked myself for months now for buying this piece of garbage. 3 weeks into the purchase I put on the MTP "update" or as I like to call it the destruction patch. I had to send it off to them for repair. One month after sending it off, I was getting the run around from their tech support and at this point they had possession of the player longer than I had. Rediculous for a $300 purchase. I complained and requested a new unit and then they can have my old one when they can figure out how to fix it. After the promise of a new one...two more weeks. Finally after calling every day since that point and holding for hours literally (all time combined) they told me "we've done all we can for you sir. We're sorry." I asked what am I supposed to do then to get either my money or a working player and their response again was "as soon as your player is repaired or we have a replacement to send you we will send it out. That's all we can do for you. Are there any further questions?" Oddly enough, two days later a used (don't know if it's the same one) unit came back to me with the update on it including all of the errors that was the initial reason for the repair. I just dealt with it and used it as best I could. This was truly a blessing. Thank you.

I would have filed with the BBB but couldn't find the proper BBB office to file.

i had the EXACT same problem i had the 820 and it wouldnt download anything onto it it said i needed new updates, but it just kept installing them and it didnt do anything . i found out after going through 3 people on samsung tech support that it was my antivirus. you have to turn it off then reinstall it. it made ALL the difference.
