Samsung, Wiselink, DLNA,7000/7100 Specs and Disappointment

Mar 27, 2009 7:32AM PDT

Well after much hype with DLNA I'm officially hurt by my apparent inability to easily convert files to stream HD content to my Samsung LN52A750. Whats killing me now is the release of the 7000/7100 series approximately one month after my purchase which have incredible codec/format/container/ even effing subtitle support built into it. Here are the links to the supported format list:

Now my question to the moderators is this: Why can't the older models (750,850,950) have this kind of codec support? Now I'm not a computer genius but if the older ones can supposedly handle (hardware wise) h.264 at 1080p resolutions why can this kind of compatability not be unlocked with firmware updates?

Right now I just feel kind of burned by Samsung on a product that i love visually but hate mechanically (if that makes sense).

I dont mean to whine too much (maybe a little)but I'm just asking for a reason any reason besides the one I'm thinking of (Money...If the consumer wants these capabilities make them pay for it).

Thanks for your time

Maybe A Firmware Upgrade?
Mar 28, 2009 12:54PM PDT

There is always the possibility of a future firmware upgrade for better DLNA support in older TV's; assuming the hardware internals (e.g. CPU power, working memory) of the TV supports it. I don't think the moderators can comment about "if" or "when" though. From what I have read elsewhere, DLNA will be an important feature in TV's from all manufacturers this year. As long as Samsung sales types don't use DLNA as a differentiating feature for the next crop of HDTV's, it seems to me there is hope for a firmware upgrade for 750-950 TV's for at least some of the DLNA features you bring up.
