I'm seeing a similar problem with my mom's Samsung vr357. She copied a bunch of tapes to DVD. She can play the DVDs, but no other PC or DVD player seems to handle them.
It's a good thing I double-checked the dvd's I copied our vhs home movies to, because apparently they will only playback on this unit. Yes, the dvd's (dvd-R) are initialized. yes, they are finalized. Yes, the other dvd player plays dvd-R. Yes, my PC's dvd burner plays back dvd-R discs (and all other formats known to man) The discs recorded by the Samsung vr357 play back just fine - only in the Samsung vr357! No other dvd player, whether they are PC-based or home-entertainment-based players, will play a disc recorded by this unit. Obviously I checked the playback of a disc used to copy VHS home movies to - on the Samsung vr357 - and they played fine. So onward I marched, spending the entire Thanksgiving holiday to finally backup all those VHS tapes to dvd. Little good it does to have a dvd backup if it only plays on the unit that recorded it! What do I do in another ten years? Pray that Samsung still builds a unit that plays back the discs that this unit burned? So much for sharing movies of the kids with distant friends and family, unless they happen to have a Samsung vr357 to play them in...
P.S. Even some heavy-duty DVD recovery tools on the PC have had zero luck!
