Question

Samsung UN60ES7100 turns off and on and can't access network

Mar 11, 2016 10:40AM PST

I'm having massive problems with my Samsung SmartTV. I've seen similar issues encountered by other users but I'm not sure if anyone has the full list of issues I have.

1) TV turns off and then back on every 2-3 minutes
2) If I try to access the network settings or view network status the UI locks up and the TV becomes unresponsive to the remote until it reboots.
3) When trying to flash the firmware from a USB stick the screen goes completely black (until the TV reboots).

I have tried a factory reset and disabling all ecofriendly / powersave settings to no effect.

I have unplugged my TV for 24 hours and it still had failures when I plugged it back in.

As far as I can tell I am running the latest firmware (T
-MST10PAUSC v02004) but am not sure if I can upgrade or downgrade it without the internet. When I tried to flash from a USB stick the screen just went black until the TV rebooted. Maybe the USB stick needs a particular filesystem? It doesn't seem like that would work if it doesn't get as far as an error message.

So what's going on? Is this a hardware issue or a firmware issue? These issues started happening in the last week. I have heard that Samsung is notorious for using faulty capacitors in their power supplies but I also heard that was only with older TVs, does that affect my TV? I have plenty of electrical background and am comfortable with replacing the capacitors on the PCB if needed though my multimeter can't measure capacitance.

Any assistance will be appreciated. Samsung call center support was worthless and didn't even seem aware of similar issues.

This one is mainly about consumer discussions. I have yet to see any TV tech dive in here.

Nod to AVSForum.
