Question

Samsung UN50F6300AFXZA won't power up

Oct 7, 2018 3:48PM PDT

Was watching my Samsung UN50F6300AFXZA LED TV & it stopped working. No picture; no sound. Audio was still coming from the stand-alone sound bar thru my DISH receiver. Replaced the batteries in the remote - didn't help. Depressed the button on the back of the TV for 10+ seconds (found this suggestion on a website) - didn't help. Unplugged the TV from the power surger & replugged it directly into the wall - didn't help (wall outlet works). Don't see a red power light on the front of the TV (can't remember if I've seen one, but when I called Samsung they said there is one on the TV.) Samsung just referred me to their authorized repair facility (who has pretty poor ratings on-line) - don't want to go that route yet. One website says the first "F" in the model # means it was manufactured in 2013 - sounds about when I bought it. Any suggestions as to what the problem could be & if it's worth fixing? Or is the TV just toast?

Looked at a new Samsung.

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung-50-class-led-nu6900-series-2160p-smart-4k-uhd-tv-with-hdr/6288348.p?skuId=6288348 is $399 so you have to beat that in repair by a lot.

You would need the service manual, the usual shop tools like Volt Meter, Oscope and background in TV repair. The manual is over at www.shopjimmy.com and about 12 dollars. I find most folk won't buy the manual and when I work on a set, if they don't buy this, I turn the job down. (corrected typo here.)

That price seems reasonable. Part of my problem, however, is that my TV sits on a "corner" TV stand which is triangular in shape. Most of the newer TV's like the one you sent the link to, have legs at each end of the TV which are too wide to fit on my corner TV stand. My current (non-working) TV has a single stand in the center which works just fine on my TV stand, plus it swivels was is a nice perk. Was hoping not to also have to purchase a new TV stand, but it may come to that. My living room is on the small side, and that corner is the only place to put a stand. Nothing's ever simple, is it?!

The new sets of the same size

Should fit. There's no need for the triangle in the back since the electronics have shrunk.

As to the legs, one could use one of those universal TV stands where the foot is in the middle. Example:

RP, I will check into the universal TV stands like the pic you included. I hadn't realized there was such an animal. That would fit on my wooden corner TV stand, eliminate the problem with the TV legs at each end of the TV, and would widen the selection of replacement TV's to choose from. Doesn't look like it swivels, but I can live without that. Thanks for your help with my dilemma.

I wonder...

Sorry if I bring this up and it's off base (pun intended) but the swivel part was the last time I saw such was on or part of the TV stand. The TV fit nicely on that so this is why I looked at universal stands (on Amazon) and nabbed that image since my thought was this might be a way to keep the swivel.

Might do the trick

Thanks RP. I'm going to buy one of the universal stands if I end up buying another Samsung. Since it looks like I'm going to replace the TV, I might spring for a little larger screen this time (a 55" vs my old 50"). There's a 55" LG that comes with a center stand. The 55" Samsungs all seem to have the legs at each end of the TV. Any opinion on Samsung vs LG TV's?

BTW, I found my paperwork for my Samsung 6300 that just bit the dust - bought it in 2014 (manufactured in 2013), so it only lasted 4 yrs. I'm a bit miffed about that. Guess I should've bought that 5-yr extended warranty after all. This was the first TV that's ever died on me. Things sure don't last like they used to...
