Question

Samsung UN40ES6100FXZA no picture only sound why?

Apr 14, 2015 4:45AM PDT

I was watching my Samsung UN40ES6100FXZA TV and the picture just faded away. I have sound. It would run hot sometimes and I think it would what I recently found out is called flashlighting. Any ideas what went bad and is it fixable?

Answer
There is a test with a flashlight but is not flashlighting.

https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&as_q=lcd+flashlight+test finds how to do this test and prior discussions.

Repair is almost always possible but not everyone is an electronics tech. The search is good enough for those that do such repairs. The rest of us call in and get estimates.

Try the old school thing. Unplug power for about 15 minutes, plug it back in and try again.

Flashlight testing
Apr 14, 2015 12:59PM PDT

I've done the flashlight test and I can see a picture. so with that I'm assuming that my lights are out. Luckily I have an extended warranty. I don't usually buy them but with something that costs almost $1000 I thought it would be wise. So, here's hoping they honor it. I tried the old school thing first. I just did not want to go in blind. Thanks.
