Question

Samsung UN32EH4003 HDMI ports not working

Jan 28, 2015 9:54AM PST

The other day I was moving my TV from a different room and stupidly didn't remove the HDMI cord and it got snagged on a door knob and ripped out breaking the port it was connected to. The second port was still fully intact but also not working, I was able to get it somewhat working but when the TV got moved too much it stopped. The USB for media was still working. I didn't test component.

So I ordered a replacement main board and got it today and switched it. But the HDMI ports still aren't working. They're both perfectly intact and the board is functional but still nothing. The USB works as does component (but there's no audio). I've tried to factory reset and the unplug for 10 minutes thing. Both to no avail.

Is there anything else I can do? I don't get why a new perfectly fine board still isn't working. Any help would be greatly appreciated since I don't have the money for a new TV. Especially one that should be working.

Answer
The thing is, power up with damage really makes this unknown

If all the internal cables look ok then you replace the board this HDMI board connects to.

Looking at the cables none of them look visibly damaged. And the other board is where the power connects, if that were the problem it wouldn't be able to power on, right? That board wasn't affected by the initial incident. Could that board actually be the problem?

Well...

It turns out I didn't match up the part numbers when buying the replacement board so I'm guessing that may be the problem. Guess I'm going to order a board with matching numbers and see if that fixes it. Thanks for the help.

Ahh, now that makes sense.

The place I order boards really highlights that so I skipped that note here. Sorry about that.

Still no luck.

I got the board with the matching numbers and I'm still having the same problem with the HDMI not working. Again the USB is working, haven't tried component. Is there something I have to do when I put in a new board? To like "activate" it? I'm thinking of trying to replace the ribbon cable next, I guess. To see if that's the problem.

So far, no.

But a power up with a damaged board could damage downstream boards. All bets are off but my bet would be the next board down was toasted.
