Samsung UE48H6700 Service Menu Settings Help

Sep 17, 2016 9:47AM PDT

So I've come here from this thread: https://www.cnet.com/forums/discussions/screwed-up-my-service-menu-382371/

I know... I absolutely shouldn't have gone into the service menu without knowing what I was doing but I've done it now and would really appreciate some help.

The full model number of my TV is: UE48H6700STXXU

I was trying to figure out a way to disable bluetooth to get the smart remote working with my Shield TV (android box) and it didn't look possible from the main menu. So I saw a video on youtube showing how to get into the service menu. I thought I'd just "take a look" so I pressed the key combination on the remote with the TV off, and the TV turned on into the service menu. I looked at the menu that came up, realised I didn't want to mess with anything so I thought I'd get straight out and pressed the power button on the remote to turn the TV off. I didn't change anything at all in the service menu, didn't even go into the menus, just loaded up into it and then immediately quit. (I later found out that this was a mistake, how bad I don't know)

When I turned it on, I noticed that all my picture settings had been reset to Dynamic so I set them back to how I had them and that's when I started to panic.

Despite putting the Picture settings back to how I had them, the picture is now noticeably less bright, duller even and blacks seem a bit crushed. It also doesn't seem as defined and seems softer, almost like it's not processing the picture as much or correctly. I read on a forum thread elsewhere that you *must* "reset" the service menu *before* exiting it - and that was the stupid mistake I made since I really shouldn't have been in there in the first place despite not changing a single thing.

I can't update the firmware since it's already on the latest version and I don't think that touches settings in the service menu anyway. Unless there's a way to flash current firmware and restore *all* settings?

So i'm hoping: Can someone here with the exact same TV or knows the settings(!) or who otherwise knows what they're doing can let me know the settings that *were* (i.e. default) in my model of TV's service menu before I stupidly exited the service menu and lost them?

Maybe post screenshots of the settings? (Please don't make the same mistake I did though, obviously and stay out of the service menu completely unless you know what you're doing - Not even once!)

Otherwise, what's the advice to fix this mess? I'd really appreciate some help with this as I'm feeling pretty crappy about the whole stupid idea. I do have a warranty with the seller of the TV, but I doubt they'd cover something like this.

I'd be so grateful if someone could help or provide the shipped, untouched settings for the service menu which must have changed somehow just by me loading the menu and exiting out.

Many thanks

Answer
So far I've yet to find discussions in the clear about this.

You might try buying the service manual (it's about 12 bucks) at samsungparts.com and hope they cover service menu items.

The usual result is a repair by replacing the main board. Don't laugh or cry as this may be cheaper than a service call. Try samsungparts or shopjimmy.com.

Check the manual for any and all resets. You'll need to apply your settings, take it out of shop/demo mode too.

Thanks for getting back to me. I've not had any luck trying to find the settings anywhere and since it's still in warranty, I don't want to go opening it up and replacing the mainboard or else using the service menu, which frankly to me seems a terrifying prospect because apparently in there, things get changed without the user even specifying it. I take full responsibility for having opened it up, but since I didn't change a thing and just exited, I'm a little annoyed that it's had the effect it's had. A learning lesson for me, definitely. I've contacted the place I bought the TV from and asked if they'd have a look at it. It might be difficult to explain the issue though since obviously they can't see what the picture looked like before and the although the picture isn't "bad" it's almost certainly not what it was. I'll see how I get on and thanks again for the suggestions.

Time to use Samsung's Chat at samsung.com.

I've used it to find out things. In your case you'll hit the samsung.com site and click on chat. Ask them how to do a factory reset.
